This new tropical cyclone named Tessi appears to be heading for Cairns as of 1/4/00.   If it does get there it will be hot on the heels of TC Steve which made a direct hit on Cairns on the evening of 27/2/00 (see Eyewitness Report).

As of 2/4/00, mid-afternoon, Tessi appears to be heading directly for Townsville where it is likely to go ashore sometime on Monday 3rd.  The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) web-site has become inundated today so you might need to click many times on the links before you get through.

Early morning 3/4/00 Tessi crossed the coast near Lucinda and became stationary and started rapidly weakening. The second map above is now in its final form.  More reports may be aded as they are received.  Power is out in the whole region and communication difficult. Damage is still being assessed.
