DEVELOPING TROPICAL LOW :
Timor Sea: NNW of Broome, NW of Derby:
TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 4
Issued at 8:45 am WST on Monday, 6 March 2006
BY THE BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH
A CYCLONE WATCH is now current for a tropical low for coastal areas
between Broome and Kalumburu.
At 8am WST a tropical low was estimated to be 830 kilometres north
northwest of Broome and 870 kilometres northwest of Derby and moving west at around 10
kilometres per hour.
Though currently moving westwards, it is likely that the low will turn sharply towards the
southeast later today and approach the Kimberley coast on Tuesday.
The low is currently poorly defined, however there is some potential for it to develop
into a tropical cyclone later today. Should the low develop into a tropical cyclone it is
unlikely to reach more than category one intensity prior to impact on the coast.
Details of tropical low at 8am WST:
Centre within 170 km of 11.7S 118.0E moving W at 10 km/hr, CP 1000 hPa Max gusts 80 km/hr
near the centre, below tropical cyclone intensity.
The next warning will be issued by 3:00pm WST.
The FESA-State Emergency Service advises that there are no community alerts at present.
Communities between Broome and Kalumburu should listen for the next advice.
