Tropical Cyclone Signal No 1 (Stand By) was hoisted at 16:45 on Thursday 7th October 1999
to replace the No 3 (Strong Winds) Signal.
All signals were lowered at 09:25 on Saturday 9th October.
At 05:00 on 7th October gusty winds were rattling everything and it seemed that Dan was
almost upon us. As the day progressed, the wind soon dropped and we had a cloudless and
sunny but hazy day. In the afternoon, the Typhoon signal was lowered from 3 to 1.
It appears Dan has swerved to the right and will cross the coast well to the East of
HK.
